our story

We ran our first public workshop, SpaLEAD™ Personal Leadership, at the Mandarin Oriental Dara Dhevi in Chiang Mai, Thailand in March 2008

Urban Healing started as a Bangkok based learning and development company in June 2007. With significant experience in the hospitality, catering, retail, transport, and automotive industry, we made a strategic decision to expand into the spa and wellness community and to share our knowledge with this young industry.

Michael Loh, publisher of the SpaAsia magazine, invited us to offer management education for the Asian Spa Industry. SpaLEAD™, an innovative spa management development programme and SpaTRAINER™, a 3-day training skills development workshop for spa and product house trainers were born. The first of the four 1-week SpaLEAD™ workshops, Personal Leadership, was launched at the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi Hotel in Chiang Mai, and received very positive feedback from the participants. The most popular workshop, Business Leadership – was held at the Kamalaya Wellness Sanctuary in Samui.

As members of the Thai Spa Association and regular contributors to the Asia Pacific Spa and Wellness Coaltion we were invited to speak at many spa and wellness conferences in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Hua Hin and Bangkok. We also contributed the education chapter to the first academic book on spa management, “Understanding the Global Spa Industry” published by Elsevier.

a major success

In 2009, we decided to offer our expertise to clients in a broader range of industries as it became apparent that our knowledge could provide measurable benefits for them. One of our UK clients asked us to help develop a new customer service philosophy that turned into a major cultural change initiative. We created a new service philosophy based on detailed research and  developed and delivered inspiring training programmes which actively influenced the behaviour of 1200 managers and 6000 employees.

The initiative exceeded everybody’s expectations in terms of behavioural change, guest satisfaction and financial performance. We are delighted that our work with our client Center Parcs has been awarded with a regional and national UK training award.

Since then we have gone on to work with many new clients, inspiring people to change and adopt new behaviours.
